of the ocean or Everest Base Camp? Or why visualise a bird’s eye view of our world when you can paint it live while freefalling from a thousand feet? This summer Philip fulfilled yet another of his extreme ambitions by completing a pastel painting while skydiving. Using a specially designed easel, Philip spent 13 minutes in the air and created his personal interpretation of the green landscape of County Longford in Ireland. This artist’s impression once again shows us the world through new eyes, the eyes of the world’s foremost ‘extreme artist’! Philip brings movement onto his canvas, action into his brush-strokes and vibrancy into every corner of life. His landscapes are living things: each one, a moment of almost Shakespearean action with images that seem to leap off the frame. Waves at sea have a tranquil cadence, storms seem an almost elemental force, clouds are possessed of a majestic grace. Yet these images alone are only half of the story. What sets Philip apart is his process. Why simply imagine shark-infested depths or snow-capped mountains from a comfortable studio, when you can capture them up close from the depths Watch out for footage of Philip’s skydiving adventure which will shortly be appearing on our youtube channel.
