New from the acknowledged master of modern sculpture Carl Payne’s mesmerising new release for summer represents a stunning addition to his already impressive oeuvre. This thought-provoking statement piece is inspired by the idea of togetherness, but Carl’s take on this idea is unconventional. Rather than referencing the traditional idea of an embrace as an emblem of unity, he has chosen to describe his two figures as part of a more expansive whole; although not yet touching they stand face to face, finely balanced and reaching out to complete the circle he has created through a beautiful handling of compositional lines. Carl’s extraordinary figurative sculpture interprets a range of the great traditional themes in a bold contemporary style which has won him collectors from all over the world. Amongst his many public commissions, his personal favourite is the Sir Stanley Matthews statue at the Britannia stadium: technically challenging, dynamic, historical and unique, it was voted the best sporting statue in Europe. He is inspired by music, the female form and a host of artistic figures including Rodin, Alfred Gilbert and Charles Sargant Jagger, as well as many of the Pre- Raphaelites. All of Carl’s work is lovingly created first in his studio and then in his foundry as a pure bronze exclusive edition. Unity has been exquisitely wrought as a limited edition of 95, each of which is finished with a distinctive stone coloured patina. CARL PAYNE 18 UNITY CARL PAYNE
