Fine Art Magazine June 18
Summer 2018 will see the Cotswolds ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ invaded by five foot sculptures of hares in unexpected places around its towns and in the countryside. The ‘Hare Trail’ encourages people to visit parts of the landscape that they have not explored previously as well as the more well-known sites. Our much-loved English Countryside artist Mary Shaw was commissioned to paint one of the hares and the result is quite simply stunning. Entitled ‘A Flash of Blue’, her hare features an exquisite kingfisher within a beautifully depicted meadow setting; the style of the work and the meadow flowers that cover the surface mean that this extraordinary artwork sits within the Cotswold landscape as naturally as if it had grown organically from it. This beautiful work of art will be sold at auction in September along with its fellows. Profits will go towards Cotswolds AONB projects - Caring for the Cotswolds and Glorious Grasslands. “Nature is always in my paintings. I love delicate flowers and grasses and am fascinated with movement – the sight of flowers and grasses blowing in the wind is truly beautiful.” MARY SHAW A T O N E W I T H N A T U R E . . . 25 MARY SHAW ARTIST FEATURE
